Local Body Representation

Local Body Councillors

Local body elections are held every three years and the most recent ones were held in September 2016.  Johnsonville residents are represented on Wellington City Council by three Northern Ward councillors. These three councillors also represent the suburbs of Churton Park, Glenside, Grenada North, Grenada Village, Horokiwi, Newlands, Ohariu, Paparangi, Takapu Valley, Tawa and Woodridge. The Mayor of Wellington, Justin Lester, lives in Johnsonville.  In Greater Wellington Regional Council, all Wellington City residents, including Johnsonville residents, are represented by five councillors in the Wellington constituency.

The Mayor

Justin Lester was elected Mayor of Wellington City in 2016, after serving as a Northern Ward Councillor for two terms. Justin lives in Johnsonville and we hope that he will continue to advocate for the Northern Suburbs.

Greater Wellington Councillors

The five councillors currently representing the Wellington Constituency of the Regional Council are:

  • Ian McKinnon
  • Daran Ponter
